Double Bets in Roulette

The most popular roulette system, the martingale, requires you to double your bet after every loss. The theory is that after every loss, you can put a bigger bet on which if wins, covers you other losses and makes a small profit.

Casino’s encourage system users up to a point. As none of them work, then they cannot push them directly. They do it in more subtle ways. The most obvious one is the “double bets button”.

Double up at Roulette

Sky Vegas casino and others offer this. It does make it easier to place bets on roulette, if you are doubling up your previous bet. The problem with this, is that you can quickly hit the table limit. After that you are stuck.

Long streaks of red or black are unusual in any one short period you observe. However, over the course of an evening, theses sequences come out. You’d be surprised if you never saw a streak of 10 reds. This is where doubling up and gamblers fallacy can be costly.

As the roulette table has no memory, after 9 reds, the chance of the next spin being red is the same as before. Those 9 reds are irrelevant. People seem to think that it must come up black to satisfy the law of large numbers. This is not true. The law of large numbers says the percentage of occurrences gets closer to the expectation. This doesn’t mean that after 100 spins you are going to get say, 48 reds, 49 blacks and 2 greens. It means after a large number of spins (possible thousands), you will get 48.64% reds, 48.64% Blacks and 2.72% green. If you want to double your bets in Roulette, you are best off playing at Sky Vegas as they allow you to start with a very low stake.
